FIXED GPS

Fixed or mounted GPS receiver units have the advantage of displaying the information overlaid on charts. They are sometimes known as chartplotters. These chartplotters are ideal for navigation but should not be used to replace traditional paper charts. The other advantage the fixed GPS receiver unit has over handheld GPS is the larger screen. When you are out in the cockpit and trying to steer as well as navigate, it is so much easier to look at a fairly large screen on the fixed unit than holding a small handheld and concentrating on a very small screen. Chartplotters also tend to have more facilities available than handhelds, and the buttons are larger. These chartplotter fixed GPS units have an external antenna that tend to give better performance than your average handheld , so accurate positioning is more precise. Below is a video that shows you some of the features that you can use on chartplotters.

Most chartplotters have 5 -10 inch screens (125mm – 250mm) so are easily read. Some are in black and white but most produced nowadays are in colour. Almost all of these units can have additional hardware attached to their product so that navigation is even easier. Remember to browse this website to find out more about GPS systems for sale.
